Melissa, BMus

Piano & Flute


Melissa is a classically trained pianist and flautist from Oxford and has played piano since the age of 7 and the flute since she was 12. She graduated from the University of Kent in where she focused heavily on performance. She has also studied privately under Professor Gordon Fergus-Thompson at the Royal College of Music and has taken Grade 8 in both piano and flute, ABRSM.


Melissa has won various competitions such as the Oxford Music Festival and generally loves to perform. She also loves to work with other musicians and has performed duets and has also accompanied instrumentalists and singers for final recitals and exams. She has some exciting upcoming projects and constantly working to improve her skill in both performing and teaching as well as her qualifications.


She has been teaching piano to all ages, from beginners to advanced learners for 4 years now. Her approach to teaching focuses heavily on the pupil’s needs by providing tailored lessons to suit each and every pupil's individual goals. She follows the examination board requirements and uses a wide range of other methods and materials within her lessons to achieve general musicianship and she ensures that all her pupils receive a well-rounded method of training including musical theory and musical history.


As a teacher Melissa aims to pass on her love and passion for music to others by creating stimulating lessons that instil confidence in her pupils by making lessons as informative and enjoyable as possible, so as her pupils leave lessons feeling inspired and motivated.
